In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the School of Engineering embarked on several projects for the design and manufacture of personal protective equipment (PPE’s) that were in short supply in the market, with the aim of donating them to frontline health workers.

The School of Engineering is a strong advocate of local manufacturing, and through the research, design and production of a variety of products at ECU we endeavour to demonstrate that Australian manufacturing can be competitive in price, quality and style.

International students in Australia benefit from Post-Study Work Rights (PSWR) after graduation, with duration depending on the level of the qualification. Perth is classified as a “regional major city”, meaning that ECU graduates get one additional year of PSWR. Students who graduate from ECU South West campus receive an additional two years of PSWR.

Our undergraduate Paramedical Science degree is the only fully-accredited course of its kind in Western Australia while our School of Nursing and Midwifery is WA’s largest nursing program. Perth’s network of cycling tracks is arguably among the very best in the world. Safe, paved and signposted, they are like “mini highways” with scenic routes. Sometimes, lucky students have a furry visitor come up through the back of our Joondalup or South West campuses.

For others, a mob of kangaroos may be seen in the wild just minutes away from the Perth CBD and located on the Swan River. Heirisson Island features western grey kangaroos, and entry into the nature reserve is free.

All three of our campuses have been thoughtfully blended into the local environment which is unique to each location. Large trees provide shade and provide a contemplative and cooling space, and the local fauna may join you in chilling out. Nestled up in the pine trees of our Joondalup Campus you may also discover the original cottage of our namesake, Edith Cowan.

ECU Science students have access to a state-of-the-art $50 million science building, where government, academia and industry are working side by side to deliver world-class teaching, to collaborate and to innovate.

The building includes 2,500sqm of laboratory space over two floors which can hold up to 180 students at any one time, and 3,600sqm over two floors for ECU’s scientists and students to engage with the cyber security industry.
